Projector Screen & Throw Calculator

How far is the projector from the wall, and what kind of lens? You get the biggest screen you can fill, its real width and height, and how far back to sit — drawn to scale, free forever.

Measure from the projector lens to the screen wall.

Check your projector’s spec sheet for its throw ratio, then fine-tune here.

The math behind it

  1. Screen width = distance ÷ throw ratio

A projector 12 ft back with a 1.3 throw ratio makes an image about 110″ (96″ wide). Move it closer or pick a shorter-throw lens for the same screen in a smaller room.

  2. The “size” is the diagonal

We turn that width into the diagonal everyone shops by (width ÷ 0.872 for 16:9) and the real height, so you can check it fits the wall. See our TV size & dimensions calculator for the screen geometry.

  3. Light & lumens still matter

A bigger image spreads the same light thinner. In a room with windows you want more lumens or a slightly smaller screen — part of what we check when we design the room.
