What this actually involves
Most people do not need a cinema. They need the dialogue to be audible and the film to have some weight to it. Here is what each step up actually gets you.
5.1 surround
Front three, two rears and a sub. Rear speakers wired in-wall rather than trailing across the floor, and levels matched to your seating position.
Atmos and in-ceiling
Height speakers cut into the ceiling and aimed at the seats. This is the one that makes people sit up, and it is the one that needs doing properly.
Whole-home audio
Speakers in the kitchen, patio and bedrooms on their own zones, controlled from your phone. Great for entertaining, terrible if wired badly.
The part that matters
Where the speakers go matters more than what they cost
A modest set of speakers in the right positions will beat an expensive set in the wrong ones every single time. Rear speakers behind the seating rather than beside it, height speakers aimed at ear level, and a subwoofer placed where the room does not turn it into a drone.
We measure the room, place accordingly, then calibrate with a microphone rather than by ear. It takes an extra half hour and it is the difference between equipment and a system.

Questions we get asked every week
Is a soundbar good enough?
For a lot of rooms, honestly, yes — particularly if the alternative is a badly positioned 5.1. A good soundbar with a separate subwoofer, mounted properly and wired out of sight, is a large improvement over TV speakers.
Can you put speakers in the ceiling of an existing house?
Usually. It depends what is above the ceiling and which way the joists run. We will check the loft or crawl space first and tell you what is realistic before cutting anything.
Will you hide the speaker wire?
Yes, that is the point. Speaker cable runs inside walls and ceilings wherever the structure allows, and into a colour-matched channel where it does not.
Can you make the dialogue clearer?
That is the most common request we get and it is usually fixable — centre speaker level, speaker placement, or a setting buried in the receiver. Sometimes it takes ten minutes.
