One camera down, or everything down?
Open the app and count. Every device offline = network problem — restart the router properly and the cameras follow it back. One camera offline = that camera’s power or signal. That single question saves half an hour of wrong turns.
Power, honestly checked
Battery cams: check the charge in the app’s device-health screen — cold nights and busy driveways drain them faster than the brochure said. Plug-in cams: outlet works? Wall-switch didn’t kill it? Wired doorbells: transformer still putting out?
Power-cycle the camera
Wyze’s own guide calls this “the simplest fix,” and it is: unplug (or pull the battery), count thirty, reconnect. Solves the everyday lock-ups.
Restart the router the right way
Modem and router off, thirty seconds dark, modem first, router second, two minutes patience. Cameras reconnect on their own — give them a few minutes before declaring failure.
Reconnect through the app, not from scratch
Ring: menu → Devices → your camera → Device Health → Reconnect to Wi-Fi. Most brands hide an equivalent in device settings. Only if that fails, factory-reset and re-add (Wyze v3: hold SETUP on the bottom 10 seconds — pull the microSD card first).
Most “broken” cameras just have weak Wi-Fi
Cameras live where signal goes to die — exterior walls, garages, metal soffits. Ring puts an actual number on it: check Device Health → Signal Strength (RSSI) in the app. Down to −60 is good; −60 to −70 works; past −70 expect delays and dropouts, and past −80 the camera will fall offline over and over no matter how many times you re-add it.
Two more traps: most budget cameras (Wyze says it outright) are 2.4 GHz-only — they cannot join a 5 GHz-only network no matter what; and brick, stucco and metal doors eat signal, which is why the camera two feet outside a wall gets half the bars of the phone two feet inside it.
Cheapest first
Move the router closer to the camera side of the house (free); elevate it off the floor and out of the metal media cabinet (free); a Wi-Fi extender or the brand’s own bridge near the problem wall (~$30–60); or the real fix for camera-heavy homes — a mesh system with a node near each end of the house. Wired PoE camera systems dodge all of this, which is why we still install them for anyone serious about coverage: one cable is power and network both, and RSSI stops being your problem forever.

Quick answers
My camera goes offline every night, back every morning.
Classic marginal-signal behavior — neighbors' networks get busy in the evening and your weakest link drops first. Check the RSSI number; if it is past −70, improve signal rather than resetting the camera again.
I changed my Wi-Fi password and every camera died.
Expected: cameras cannot learn new credentials while offline. Each needs the app's reconnect/change-network flow. Pro tip for next time: keep the same network name and password on a new router and everything rejoins by itself.
The camera is online but live view won't load away from home.
Different problem: the camera uploads fine but your phone's path to the cloud is struggling, or the camera's upload bandwidth is starved. Test live view on home Wi-Fi; if it works there, check the internet plan's upload speed.
Wired or wireless cameras — which should I buy?
Renters and single-spot coverage: wireless is fine with honest signal. Whole-property coverage you never want to babysit: wired PoE, every time. We install both and will tell you plainly which your property wants — the phone call is free.
